        PLATO

        HBC Strives to provide every student pathways to success in their academic endeavors. The HBC Learning Resource Center (LRC) offers the PLATO (Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations) online tutorial programs and is designed to assist students in strengthening their skills in areas of academic weakness. Through PLATO, HBC offers tutorials for Reading Comprehension, Language Arts, Mathematics and Writing. It is also used as a supplement to the OR 102 Career Perspectives course in order to abate deficiencies. Because this program is web-based, tutorials and tools in PLATO are available 24/7 by administrators, instructors and students, making it convenient and flexible. However, for students who may not have a personal computer or internet access HBC’s computer lab is available for use Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 9:00am – 3:00pm. In order to sign up for PLATO tutorials students will need to visit the Annie Benson Library at HBC.

        The Student Counseling Program

        The Student Counseling Program was established as part of a holistic approach to meeting the diverse needs of HBC students. The program embraces the academic assumption that student outcomes are affected by the problems they encounter with regard to the teaching-learning process. The Student Counseling Program exists to address academic matters and personal problems that may obstruct their ability to succeed. The program is eligible to currently enrolled students. Students may confidently contact a Counselor by e-mail at counseling@hbc1.edu.
